SOCCER protege Ediz Greengrass has never let the word "no" stop him from achieving his goals making representative teams.
Several times in recent years he has tried out for representative teams only to suffer the disappointment of not seeing his name on the final selection team sheet.
But in the West Hoxton boy's eyes, he considered it only a minor setback. He kept fighting for his chance.
The 12-year-old's motto was to try, try, and try again.
He has finally made it.
This week Ediz is in the NSW Futsal under 12s team at the national championships at AIS Canberra.
The championships started on Monday and finish on Saturday.
Ediz plays for the Campbelltown Quake club in the Macarthur district Futsal competition.
He is also a talented outdoor soccer player.
This year he will make his debut at youth league level for the Mount Druitt Rangers under 13s team in the Football NSW representative competitions.
"It's good to be in the NSW Futsal team and also to finally make it to youth league as well," Ediz said.
"I tried out for youth league a few times but I didn't make it.
"Then I trialled at Mount Druitt Rangers in the off-season and now it has all worked out for me.
"My coach at the Rangers, Stewart Montgomery, has been good for me. He always encourages you as a player."
The midfielder said soccer takes up much of his time training for Futsal and with Mount Druitt Rangers.
The youngster's dad, Mark Greengrass, said his son has always remained determined in his quests.
"Ediz has kept trying and that's what you have to do in life," he said.
"I am very pleased for him and what he has been able to achieve."
