Waratah Cup there to be won by soccer teams

10 Jan, 2012 02:12 PM
FOOTBALL NSW's Waratah Cup will again take centre stage for 2012 as senior men's teams from the NSW Premier League, Super League, State League first division and State League second division and local association teams battle for the knockout trophy.

The 2011 cup was won by Manly United, who defeated State League first division side Mounties Wanderers 4-0 in the final.

Last year 88 teams from across all competitions enter Football NSW's FA Cup style tournament.

Football NSW chief executive Eddie Moore said they are eagerly awaiting the start of the 2012 Waratah Cup on Wednesday, March 28, with the final to be played on Sunday, July 8.

"It's a fantastic cup competition that gives any club the chance to lift up the trophy against quality opposition across all leagues," Moore said.

"We had a great 2011 Waratah Cup campaign which saw a number of surprise packets that added the fairytale theme to the script."
