MAESTRO Benji Marshall rediscovered his kicking form landing seven goals as the Wests Tigers mauled the Panthers 43-18 at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Tigers are third on 30 points with three rounds before the finals. A top four spot would give them the right to host a home semi-final.
On pure talent alone, the Wests Tigers are top-four material. But it's the battle within the players' minds at times that must drive coach Tim Sheens batty.
The run home for the Tigers is against Parramatta, this Sunday, round 24, at Parramatta Stadium, 3pm, round 25, versus Melbourne Storm, on Sunday, August 29, at Leichhardt Oval, 2pm, and round 26 versus Gold Coast Titans at Skilled Park, Robina, on Friday, September 3, from 7.35pm.
Wests Tigers chief executive officer Stephen Humphreys praised the team's character and performance to defeat Penrith in front of 17,208 spectators on home turf.
``It was a very good win coming back so strongly mentally from the previous game when we lost to Souths,'' Humphreys said.
``Coach Tim Sheens devised a very good game plan which the players stuck to for most of the game and they executed it well against Penrith.
``It was also terrific to see such a big crowd at Campbelltown for the game.''
Sheens deserves a gold medal for getting his players to curb their impetuosity for the majority of the game and attack the Panthers' big men in the middle of the field and target their edge of the field defenders.
Blockbusting forward Andrew Fifita was in rousing form, scoring two tries with the youngster earmarked for bigger things.
Replacement fullback Mitch Brown and winger Beau Ryan, who had an unhappy game against Souths, were also standout performers along with Great Britain second rower Gareth Ellis.
The Tigers hope to have fullback Wade McKinnon (hamstring) and also prop Keith Galloway who was sidelined with concussion back for this Sunday's clash with the Eels.
