SAFWAN Khalil (right) is just one step away from qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics.

The Lurnea taekwondo competitor recently returned from China and New Caledonia with gold medals in the 58-kilogram weight division.

Khalil won his first gold medal at the World University Games in China.

Then he returned home for a short break after the triumph.

The 25-year-old then flew out with the Australian team to Noumea for the Oceania Games where he won another gold medal.

"I am very happy with my achievements to win the two gold medals," a thrilled Khalil said.

"As it stands now, I am the leading Oceania representative on points for the London Olympics.

"Only one athlete gets selected in the Australian team for the Olympics."
