ST JOHNS Park Women's Bowling Club has set a local record by winning every discipline in the group play-offs for the State Championships.
They will be the district's lone club representing group K at the state finals in September in singles, pairs, triples and fours.
``This is an unprecedented achievement for this area which has some of the strongest women's teams in the country,'' St Johns Park Bowling club bowls manager Paul Girdler said.
``It just shows the enormous depth of talent in the women's club at the moment. They were able to overcome major challengers such as Cabramatta and Merrylands at district level and now go on to take out every event at group level.''
The group ``grand slam'' was achieved by a powerhouse women's team which included Julie Keegan and Sharyn Renshaw, who will be representing Australia at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, and Australian player, Anne Johns who recently won the prestigious $10,000 Black Douglas singles.
``We are so excited to win against such strong competition,'' Johns said. ``The other clubs were unfortunate to come up against us all in such good form.''
Johns joined Keegan to win the pairs, downing Lidcombe 26-8, and together they helped the fours' to victory with NSW representative Maryann Parcell and Sharyn Renshaw, taking out Roselands, 31-10.
Parcell triumphed again in the singles against Judith Hunt from Grandviews, 31-25.
In the triples, NSW player Katrina Wright joined with Jan Agar and Jan Rolph to take out the top honour, defeating Roselands 27-17.
The State finals will be held at Tuncurry Bowling Club starting on September 11.
The last group grand slam was achieved by south coast club Bombaderry in 2006.
