DIMINUTIVE Erica Messina may be as light as a feather but she is a taekwondo powerhouse.
She hasn't been beaten in more than three years of competition, her parents Vito and Maria Messina said.
The Prestons girl stands an elfin 135 centimetres and weighs a lithe 29 kilograms.
Determined Erica, 10, recently stood head and shoulders above her rivals as she won the first-dan black-belt division at the NSW Winter State Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.
Competing in the 10/11 years 28 to 31-kilograms category, Erica maintained her amazing unbeaten record with another title triumph.
Erica's victory qualifies her to represent NSW at the Australian Open titles in Canberra on October 21-24.
The year 5 pupil at St Catherine of Siena, Prestons, started martial arts five years ago.
Erica did play soccer for Liverpool Olympic in the Southern Districts Soccer Football Association a few season ago and said she loved the game.
``But martial arts is my only sport now,'' Erica said.
And the youngster who trains hard and eats plenty of fruit and vegetables, also loves a special treat made my her mother, Maria.
`` I like eating my mum's home-cooked pizza,'' Erica said.
Her instructor Erkan Aydin trains Erica and his Australian Martial Arts Academy students at Sule College at Casula.
Mr Messina couldn't heap enough praise on Aydin and his talents teaching talents.
``It takes a world champion like Erkan to create champions like Erica,'' Mr Messina said.
