Playing their last home game of the 2010 Australian Ice Hockey League competition, Liverpool's Ice Dogs gave Canberra Knights a lesson in ice hockey on Saturday night.
In front of a packed arena in the Liverpool Catholic Club sports complex, the Ice Dogs were red hot, defeating the visitors 10-2 in a dominant display.
The Ice Dogs will still collect the wooden spoon for this season, but their performance will give them hope of better things to come in 2011.
And while this was a tremendous team performance from Liverpool's only national league team, the Stephenson brothers, Todd and Scott, led the way all night.
Goalkeeper Jim Herbert also had a great game, making many saves throughout the match.
The Dogs scored first in the first 20 minute stanza and were never headed by the Knights, who tried hard but came up against a team determined to finish off the season on a high.
Ironically, despite their victory, the Ice Dogs could still not leapfrog Canberra into second last place on the ladder.
After the match, their loyal fans gave the Dogs a mighty cheer, and the players returned the compliment by shaking hands with them before disappearing into the change rooms for one last time in 2010.
