Bonnyrigg in soccer grand final

25 Aug, 2010 12:31 PM
BONNYRIGG White Eagles' coach Brian Brown is adamant his team won't make the mistake again when they take on Blacktown FC in the NSW Premier League grand final on Sunday at Parramatta Stadium.

A fortnight ago, the White Eagles' premiership campaign was left in tatters after a 4-0 reality check at the hands of the resurgent 2007 premiers Blacktown.

After that game Brown said his team played ``like they thought they had already won''.

The 2010 premiers are making sure lightning doesn't strike twice on Sunday as they look to win their first title since 2001.

``I think we were guilty of thinking we were going to win and all we had to do was show up last time,'' Brown said of their meeting with Blacktown.

``We are looking forward to having another go at Blacktown and playing with the right attitude and trying to get a good result.''

The White Eagles secured their birth in the decider with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over local rivals Sydney United in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Lukas Glavas put the Reds in the lead inside the first 10 minutes and for a while looked on track to join their under-20 team in the decider.

However, it was all Bonnyrigg from the 20-minute mark as the vibrant White Eagles midfield took control and produced goals for Brad Boardman and Daniel Severino before half-time.

Severino put the icing on the cake with a trademark free-kick in injury time.

Eagles' captain Paul Cotte said his team were looking forward to rematch with Blacktown and golden boot winner Tolgay Ozbey.

Blacktown is the only team to have a winning record against Bonnyrigg this season, with two victories to one.

``It wasn't easy playing earlier and also coming off a heavy defeat like last week, though there is a lot of confidence in this group, and all the boys really put in a big effort, and I think we thoroughly deserved the win,'' Cotte said.
