A NEW station for the Rural Fire Service is now just waiting on Liverpool council's approval.
The Advertiser reported in June last year that a new station for the Rural Fire Service could be built in the Western Sydney Parklands.
The Western Sydney Parks Trust has agreed to enter into a 25 year lease for the proposed Middleton Grange Rural Fire Service.
Council is now in negotiations with the Rural Fire Service.
The Austral and Hoxton Park brigades would merge to form the new station.
The three hectare site on the corner of Twentyseventh and Kirpatrick Avenue West Hoxton will be mostly occupied by the new fire station but other facilities may also be built on the site.
Captain of the Austral brigade Simon Andrews and captain of the Hoxton Park brigade Joel Kursawe are both in support of the alliance.
The two brigades already work together often.
"It makes sense to take the stations out of suburbia into a more rural setting," Mr Kursawe said.
"The station will be better situated geographically to protect bushland as well as residential areas.
"We're both also due for new facilities."
Mr Kursawe said both stations were at least 40 years old.
He said the new station would also be able to assist other brigades in the Liverpool area more efficiently in the new location, particularly being near the M7 junction.
"More hands make light work," Mr Andrews said, who also noted the advantage of being able to share resources.
