It's all on for Oran Park

24 Feb, 2010 10:58 AM
ORAN Park will be the next major central business district in the region, its developer, Mark Perich, believes.

Mr Perich made a presentation about how the development of the new suburb is progressing at last week's Liverpool Chamber of Commerce meeting.

He was then hit with a number of questions about a lack of transport and employment opportunities by chamber members.

``We're well under way with the construction process,'' Mr Perich said.

``The last race day at the Oran Park raceway has been and gone and the track has actually been ripped up already.''

To questions referring to the area's deficiencies Mr Perich said he and his family-run development company, Greenfields, were doing all they could to tackle them, but much depended on help from the state government.

``If we could fix up all the roads now, we would, but we need to work with the RTA to get that done,'' he said.

``We're working with them on fixing existing roads and building new connections and Camden Valley Way will be widened to four lanes, that's already been announced.

``Oran Park is going to be a complete town when it's finished. Our CBD isn't just going to consist of a shopping centre; we're going to have civic amenities too.

``There's going to be police and fire stations, medical facilities, offices and Camden Council is considering moving its administration building there as well, because Oran Park is actually in the direct centre of the Camden Council area.

``So that will hopefully encourage businesses and employers to the area.''

Mr Perich said Oran Park would have fibre-to-the-home high-speed internet connection, which would allow people to work from home.

He said Greenfields had rezoned the area to contain 8500 residential blocks.

Mr Perich admitted that the condition of the area's roads including Cobbity and Camden Valley Way were a concern.

``There is more public transport than people assume though,'' he said.

``I've been surprised by the number of bus routes already available and it's only a matter of time before we get private bus companies to run more.

``We've got 17 builders in Oran Park already and they're currently putting together display home villages.''
