Healthy lifestyle classes offered

29 Apr, 2008 11:00 PM
PEOPLE in the Miller area struggle with obesity, diabetes and circulation problem and need help with their nutrition.

This is what Hoxton Park Seventh-day Adventist church elder and nutritionist Jim Tyrokomos believes.

The Prestons resident said he and other church members wish to help people learn how to lead a healthier lifestyle with vegetarian cooking and massage classes.

``Our program will show people how to incorporate vegetables into their diet, which will give them more vitamins and improve their nutrition and also show them how to use massage to decrease stress,'' he said.

Trained masseuse and health worker, Shirley Santos will be one of the instructors.

``I have been teaching vegetarian cooking for four years now,'' Mrs Santos said. ``There is so much bacteria in meat, it carries a lot of diseases, while vegetables offer a lot of vitamins and are alive, meat is dead.''

Classes are free. Mondays at 7.30pm for four weeks from May 5 at Liverpool PCYC, Cartwright Avenue, Miller. Details: Mr Tyrokomos, 0413041476.
