Greens eye state seats

08 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
LOCAL Greens Signe Westerberg and Bill Cashman are considering running for state seats.

Mr Cashman said he was thinking about standing for Macquarie Fields and Ms Westerberg may run for Liverpool.

Both seats are held by Labor, with large margins.

Paul Lynch holds Liverpool with a margin of 26.9 per cent. Andrew McDonald holds Macquarie Fields with a margin of 11.1 per cent.

"Signe is going to be an excellent candidate for Liverpool if she decides to run," Mr Cashman said.

"She lives in the area and has done all of her life and she's a very passionate person."

Mr Cashman said he is considering running in Macquarie Fields because there were many problems there that needed to be solved.

"Andrew McDonald is a great guy but he's just in the wrong party," Mr Cashman said.

"Labor hasn't done anything for this area. There are a lot of problems in the electorate which need to be worked on."

Dr McDonald said Mr Cashman would be a worthy opponent and would run a good campaign. "He's a reasonable and credible human being," Dr McDonald said. "This next election is going to be the hardest one for Labor here for 40 years."
