First of 300,000 new residents

25 Jan, 2012 01:00 AM
RODNEY and Josephine Caruana are two of the 300,000 people expected to move into the south-west over the next 25 years.

The newlyweds are among the first residents to move into the new Talana Estate in Edmondson Park.

Landcom developed 170 blocks in the estate after the suburb was gazetted for residential development in 2006.

Talana was the first development in the precinct.

The blocks sold for prices ranging from $220,000 to $330,000.

Mr and Mrs Caruana bought a 587-square-metre block of land in December 2010 for $310,000.

"When we decided we were going to buy in Talana all the blocks had been sold but we got an email after saying they had a few blocks of land on the market again," Mrs Caruana said.

"Literally the next day we went down there about two or three hours before their office opened and were lucky enough to purchase a block."

The couple had Everyday Homes in Hoxton Park build their dream house for $320,000.

It is a single-storey three-bedroom house with a study, an entertainment area and a large backyard.

"A lot of the new areas had land available but they were much smaller lots," she said.

"We picked Edmondson Park because we heard about the new railway under construction.

"Our house is going to be within walking distance of the station and it's also close to the M7 and the M5 motorways which will be really handy when we're trying to make our way into town.

"It looked like a beautiful place to one day raise our family."

She said the new town centre planned for the area will also be of great value to them.

Mrs Caruana is a wedding videographer by trade and her husband owns a kitchen business. "He did all the joinery in the house and designed the whole kitchen," Mrs Caruana said.

The Caruanas are now just waiting for all their neighbours to move in.
