JULIE Sligar knows how important it is to have goals. In fact the more goals she has, the more likely her team will win.
She is the goal-shooter for the Bringelly Greens netball team, who made the finals of the Camden & District Netball Association competition this season.
Mrs Sligar is also the Bringelly Club president and was happy to see three of the club's five netball teams advance to the finals, despite neither of them making the grand final.
"This is my first year as president so it has been quite challenging," she said.
"We changed our uniform this year from the old skirts into dresses like the representative players, so we're certainly the best looking team in the association this year. I spent all day every Saturday at the courts during the season, switching between coaching, playing and umpiring.
"I also coach two junior teams who play on the grass and use shorter posts.
"It's lovely when you see them start and they can't catch a ball and they go on to play like superstars."
She said Bringelly was the smallest club in the association, with about 80 players.
Mrs Sligar has had a netball in her hand since she was eight years old.
She said it was what all the girls did back then.
"I've played defence all my life and this year I changed to shooter," Mrs Sligar said.
She has also played representative netball and said she has won a few grand victories over the years.
